Five Reasons the Ancestors Show Up Early

For one night the neighborhood builds an altar in the middle of the hall, marigolds climbing to the rafters, mariachi filling the aisles.

    Dancing

    Full-skirt ballet folklórico troupes sweeping the main floor in three sets: Jalisco, Veracruz, and the closing Danza de los Viejitos.

    Roaming mariachi from open to close, then a full band takes the stage at nine and doesn't stop until last call.

    Vendors

    Every hall kitchen running a Muertos special, plus a night market of local makers. Take in the pan de muerto, champurrado, sugar skulls, and papel picado.

    Contest

    Free calavera face painting from open until eight, then the contests for best catrina, best catrín, best kid. Judged live on the stage.

The Community Ofrenda

The altar is yours to add to. Send us a photo of someone you're remembering and we'll print it, frame it, and place it on the ofrenda before doors open. Find them on the altar when you arrive.

  1. Send the Photo

    Send it to us via Facebook or Instagram. One photo per person remembered.

  2. We Print and Frame It

    Every photo gets a 4×6 print in a marigold frame, at no cost to you. Deadline is Monday, October 26 so we have time.

  3. Light Their Candle

    At 8:00 PM the hall goes quiet and the altar is lit together. Take the photo home with you at the end of the night.

All ages welcome. Face painting is free and staffed by professional artists. Stroller parking beside the market stalls.

70¢ per person at the gate, card or tap. Vendors are cashless too. ATMs on site if you need one.

The hall is indoors and the market runs under cover. The event happens regardless of weather.

Before You Ask

Is This a Costume Party?

It's a celebration, not a costume contest — though calavera face paint, catrina dress, and traditional attire are very welcome. Free face painting runs from open until 8:00 PM. Please skip Halloween-style horror costumes; this night is about remembrance.

Can I Bring Something for the Ofrenda?

Yes. Photos, candles, marigolds, and a loved one's favorite dish or drink are all traditional and all welcome. Send photos ahead of time and we'll frame them for you — see The Community Ofrenda.

Is it Kid-Friendly?

Very. Face painting, the kids' folklórico troupe, and pan de muerto are all built for families. Music gets louder after 9:00 PM if little ones are sensitive to volume.

What Does it Cost?

Seventy cents per person at the gate. Face painting and the ofrenda framing are free. Food, drink, and goods from the night market are sold by individual vendors — all cashless.
